Camping on the Isle of Mull

A 3 day adventure on the Isle of Mull

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Starting in Stirling, we're heading north west to Oban to catch a ferry. Make sure to book the ferry in advance, as they can be very busy and usually fill up.

A great halfway point on this 2 hour drive to Oban is The Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, or if you can't make it that far in one go there are public toilets in Callander and Crianlarich.

In Oban, if you have time, there are lots of lovely shops and food places, I can recommend Oban Fish and Chips for lunch/dinner or The Pokey Hat for ice cream. I would also recommend filling up from a petrol station here before you get to the island, but there are also plenty of local petrol stops once you're there so don't worry.

There are lots of well situated campsites but a fan favourite with us and our hirers has been Fidden Farm Campsite, it is a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Craignure (the ferry), and the scenery is amazing the whole way there. No booking required at this campsite, check out their website for more info.

Driving time: 3 hours 30 minutes total plus ferry

To eat: Oban Fish and Chips

Stay the night: Fidden Farm Campsite

We used this day to drive around the whole island, the roads are amazing with stunning views of the sea, cliffs and mountains. Not many roads on this island, we drove on most of them!

Some places to visit:
Eas Force Waterfall
The Coffee Pot, Salen

Calgary Bay

Tobermory's high street

Isle of Mull Wine and Spirit

To stay the night, you can do what we did and spend 2 hours driving back to Fidden Farm Campsite because it was amazing, or you can get a campsite on the other side of the island/stay in Calgary Bay's community site for free.

Driving time: 5 hours (but you can do much less and still see a lot)

To eat: The Coffee Pot

Stay the night: Fidden Farm Campsite or one of numerous campsites on the island

Day 3 was our last day on the island and our ferry was at 12 noon. We spent the morning enjoying some sunshine in the campsite, cooked a full breakfast that we bought from Port nan Gael Stores and then packed up.

On the way to the ferry we stopped in at Duart Castle, a very impressively placed castle that you would have seen from the ferry. You can walk around it for free and pay to see inside, there are free toilets and a shop/tea room on site.

I would be happy to go back and spend even more time on Mull, and maybe do less driving next time (although it was worth it to see all the fantastic views)!
