North East 250 (NE250)

A 4 day long weekend spent completing the NE250

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Starting your journey in Stirling, head up north for Braemar. As you drive into the Cairngorms you are in for some amazing roads and views worth stopping for. When you get to Braemar, stop for some lunch in The Bothy and do a spot of shopping, lots of nice little shops here. Set the sat nav for Grantown-on-Spey, you will find yourself on the 'snow roads'. Lovely single track roads with passing places. Stop in Tomintoul for a break. Head into Grantown-on-Spey for the night.


Driving time: 3.5 hours

To eat: The Bothy Braemar

Stay the night: Grantown-on-Spey Caravan Park

Spend the day in Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens and enjoyed their Tearoom. Next, if you like whisky, head into Dufftown for some shopping and maybe a distillery tour. Make your way to Sandend for the night, stopping along the coast and taking in the beaches.

Driving time: 1 hour

To eat: Tearoom at Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens

Stay the night: Sandend Holidays

Drive along the coast, stopping wherever looks interesting, towards Fraserburgh. One must visit is Portsoy Ice Cream, wow! Then later we went for fish and chips in Fraserburgh and were not disappointed.​

Driving time: 1 hour

To eat: Portsoy Ice Cream

Stay the night: Fraserburgh Caravan Park

Day 4

Start heading back to Stirling, south, but take the route back into the Cairngorms. Visit Ballater, a very pretty town, on the way through. From Braemar take the same route back to Stirling, the roads are just as stunning on the way back!

Driving time: 4.5 hours
