Camping on the Isle of Mull

In my last blog post I showed off my holiday with my mum and grandma, and my partner David stayed home working. To cheer him up we planned a last minute weekend trip to the Isle of Mull. We booked a ferry from Oban to Craignure for Friday night, returning Sunday morning. Of course it rained almost the entire time but that did not take away from the beauty of Mull.

Travelling to our campsite

First things first, as I was back in Oban I HAD to try to 3rd best fish and chips in the UK. We headed to Oban Fish and Chips and I can say that was the best takeaway haddock and chips I have ever had. Got on the ferry and 50 minutes later we were on the island. There are very few roads on this island that are not single track with passing places. Luckily we were in the perfect vehicle to get out of everyone's way, even the double decker buses that hack around on these roads.

We planned to stay one night in Fidden Farm Campsite, and the other at Calgary Bay, but we were so impressed on the first night that we headed back to Fidden Farm Campsite for our second night too! This campsite requires no booking, there is plenty of space and reception is open most of the day. At £12 per person per night it is excellent value for money. There is a large open space, and then gates that you can go through at risk of stepping in sheep poo. The views are impressive, look at where we spent the night.

We spent Saturday exploring the roads around the island, which only got more impressive despite the rain and clouds. Mountains, boulders, cliffside roads... Amazing.

We both agree that it was one of the best trips we've done in Scotland, and we'd love to go back when it's sunny to see the scale of the mountains!
