We are in the middle of converting our green landy into a proper wee campervan, I thought I would share some progress pictures.
The plan:
A pop up roof will be installed allowing for two people to sleep in the roof space, like a vw camper would have.
A small kitchen area with a sink on the right hand side of the boot space.
A sofa that converts to a bed on the left hand side.
Remove one seat to allow for the sofa/bed, now we can seat 4 and sleep 3.
First thing a campervan needs, more windows! So we measured 5 times and cut a a giant hole in the side of our landy. I have to say this was the most nerve wracking bit for me, but, luckily, the window fit perfectly so we can have plenty of natural light in the living space.
Next thing we did was build the kitchen cabinet. As part of the conversion involves installing a pop up roof, we wanted the counterspace to work when you're standing up and when you're sitting down. So we went with a split level design in the meter long space that we had. We'll be installing a sink on the lower level, and underneath the sink is where we'll store some water tanks. The left side will be storage space.
Next came the sofa/bed, which was much trickier to create than the final product lets on. So we've got plenty of storage space under the bed, and the backrest is a separate piece that can be moved and placed on the floor to give your upper body lots of room. Then you can stick your feet down the skinny end where the seat used to be and sleep comfortably.
Work that has happened off camera:
The land rover is currently in for it's professional pop up roof conversion.
All the wood has been painted and varnished, and is now drying.
Countertops have been cut from some kitchen counters we rescued from Facebook Marketplace, and are ready to be installed.
The sink needs to be installed.
Custom sized cushions and covers have been ordered for the sofa/bed.
And I'm sure there's more I haven't remembered, as we have done all this is work in a week! Look out for part 2.
