The Ultimate Road Trip

See the best of Scotland in this 10-14 day road trip guide. Tried and tested by us in our Land Rover Defender campervan.

This is no bible, feel free to switch things up and discover your own adventure - but make sure to tell us about it so we can try it too. 

It is a busy schedule with lots of driving, for a more relaxing holiday pick a few of the places to skip and a few to stay at for a number of days - no point coming back from a holiday feeling like you need another holiday!

Days 1 - 3

Isle of Mull

Ferry must be booked in advance and can be very busy

For a more relaxed trip, skip the Isle of Mull and head straight to Glencoe from Tyndrum

Days 3 - 4

Glencoe and Glen Etive

For a longer trip, take an extra day here to visit Fort William or climb Ben Nevis

Days 4 - 5

Mallaig and Loch Morar

For a longer trip, if the weather is nice, spend some time relaxing on the beaches here
For a more relaxed trip, skip Mallaig and Loch Morar and drive straight to the Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye
If taking the ferry from Mallaig, check that it is running and whether booking is required

If not taking the ferry, the drive is long but beautiful

For a longer trip, spend a few more days on Skye as there is plenty to see

Days 7 - 8 

Loch Ness
For a more relaxed trip, skip Loch Ness and the Cairngorms and head back down through Glencoe

Cairngorms

For a longer trip, spend a few days in the Cairngorms getting lost in the wilderness
